Creating a unique CV is vital in the creative industry; you want to have the opportunity to stand out while still fitting into the social norms. In this morning's session, Lee Houghton explained a good CV's do's and don'ts. He showed us examples of what employers are looking for within a CV and cover letter and gave us plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

Attention to detail is essential for CV writing; he explained how you have between 15-30 seconds to get your message across. It is at this stage you must stand out from the rest. But how do you do that?

Your layout must be straightforward and interesting to the reader. In the creative industry, you can stretch the boundaries of a black and white paper CV and move into bright colours and different mediums of a CV; this could be animation, displaying it in a glass bottle, paper aeroplane etc. The possibilities are endless!

To finish the session, we looked at how to write a cover letter and what format and layout to use. Lee couldn't stress enough that the words you use within your cover letter and CV are everything; you need to be precise but academic to put forward your professionalism.

I felt this session was helpful, and I gained valuable information. My initial thoughts on upgrading my CV are incorporating fabric to help make it stand out and be more sustainable.
