I'd like to introduce you to Beth!

Beth is the middle child of the three children; her siblings are Joe and Frannie. In a chapter, it is her eighth birthday and to celebrate; the children go on a magical birthday adventure to the 'Land of Birthdays'.

I enjoyed creating Beth’s costume; this consists of a Nuno felted dress with leggings underneath. I first constructed the circle skirt for the dress and hemmed it. Similar to my experiments, I laid out my fleece and placed a layer of pond liner in-between to hold the shape of the dress. This can be seen in the photograph on the left. The black strip of material is the pond liner. I wanted this to be seamless without any cut-outs. This was a challenge which I have come across before during my experiments. When the children arrive in the ‘Land of Birthdays’, they wear their ordinary clothes, and then they dress up later in the chapter. However, Beth is the birthday girl, so I added a bit of Angelina (sparkle) to her ordinary costume to add an element of magic and sparkle.

Her leggings are carefully made using jersey fabric scraps to create a neat, clean finish.

Beth's character came alive during the production process, and I am pleased with the outcome.
